SDG 4: Quality Education

Tackling school operations was a key challenge, and home-based teaching and learning (PdPR) amid school closures during MCO. The government is pushing towards a digital centric education system where students leverage on software and hardware as a tool to assist in learning. The Johor government has chosen to distribute 8000 computer devices and mobile broadband internet worth RM25 million to students from the B40 families and single mothers as it is more practical for usage as well as having a larger memory to accommodate PdPR sessions at home

SDG 3: Good Health and Wellbeing

The number of patients visiting health clinics in Johor for mental health issues increased by more than tenfold in three months, from June to August. There were 266 suicides nationwide since the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO). The statistics work out to one suicide a day, with Johor topping the tally with 47 cases, followed by Selangor (39) and federal territories (28).

SDG 1: No Poverty

Economic growth has slowed down dramatically and poverty is on the rise everywhere. The cost of living in Johor is much higher than other states, if the household income of RM2,208 per month is considered poor at a national level, it is considered too poor in Johor. The current benchmark is a monthly income of RM2,508, a figure that is noticeably higher than Malaysia’s national PLI.
